When I scanned the painting, I accidentally scanned it in grayscale first.  I decided I liked how it came out and thought I would add it at the bottom.

  1. Scanning in b/w is great for evaluating contrast and balance of light and dark throughout the image. If it looks like the is too much in the midtone range you could add darker tones where needed to bring out/brighten up the image more. Contrast shows up more clearly in b/w than in color.
